Reports suggest that Andrea Pirlo might be in line for a unexpected comeback to Sampdoria, as the club contemplates replacing current head coach Leonardo Semplici. The team is currently battling to avoid relegation in Serie B.

Sampdoria’s 2024-25 season has been disappointing, with the team currently in 17th place after 31 matches. They have only managed to secure six victories, alongside 14 draws and 11 losses, leaving them tied on points (32) with Reggiana in the relegation zone.

Pirlo previously managed Sampdoria during the 2023-24 season, guiding them to a seventh-place finish following their relegation from Serie A. However, he was dismissed early in the 2024-25 campaign after a poor start of just one point from three matches.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sampdoria is considering Pirlo as a potential replacement for Semplici, whose position appears increasingly precarious. The report suggests that Semplici remains in his role only because the club has not yet settled on his successor.

Alongside Pirlo, two other candidates are reportedly under consideration: Giuseppe Iachini and Aurelio Andreazzoli. The club’s decision on who will lead them through this crucial period could have a significant impact on their chances of avoiding relegation to Serie C.
