Portland Timbers Acquire Portuguese Midfielder David Pereira Da Costa from RC Lens
The Portland Timbers have officially announced the acquisition of Portuguese midfielder David Pereira Da Costa, 24, from French Ligue 1 club RC Lens. This transfer marks the latest in a series of departures from Lens in recent weeks.
Over the past month and a half, Lens has experienced a significant exodus of players. The trend began with goalkeeper Brice Samba’s move to Stade Rennais in early January. Subsequently, the club’s central defensive pair, Abdukodir Khusanov and Kevin Danso, secured transfers to English Premier League clubs Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively.
Following the closure of the French transfer window on February 3rd, two additional players have left Lens. Przemyslaw Frankowski departed for a Turkish club after expressing his desire to leave, and now Da Costa has made his way to Major League Soccer (MLS) with the Portland Timbers.
The Portland Timbers have confirmed that Da Costa’s contract will run through the 2028 season, with an option to extend for an additional year. This long-term commitment underscores the club’s faith in the Portuguese playmaker’s abilities and potential impact on the team.
