PSG Coach Dismisses Favorite Label Ahead of Aston Villa Clash
Following their triumph over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has emerged as a top contender for the title. Despite being ranked second by Opta in terms of winning probability, just behind Barcelona, PSG’s head coach Luis Enrique is reluctant to embrace the favorite status.
The French champions, who secured their domestic title with six matches remaining, are set to face Aston Villa in the quarter-finals. Villa, currently seventh in the Premier League, trail the league leaders by a significant margin.
Addressing the media before the first leg at Parc des Princes, Enrique stated, “I believe it’s an equal matchup. Everyone dismissed our chances against Liverpool, yet here we are. We must focus on our performance to advance.”
PSG’s Champions League journey has been marked by near misses in recent years. They reached the semi-finals last season before being eliminated by Borussia Dortmund, and made it to the final in 2020, only to fall short against Bayern Munich.
As the Parisian club continues its quest for their first Champions League trophy, Enrique’s cautious approach highlights the unpredictable nature of the competition and the respect afforded to their English opponents.
