PSG Defender Warns Against Underestimating Brest in Champions League Clash

Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes has cautioned his team against complacency as they prepare to face Stade Brestois in the Champions League play-off round. Despite PSG’s previous victories over Brest this season, Mendes emphasized the potential threat posed by their opponents.

“Every detail matters in the Champions League. If we’re not fully prepared, Brest can certainly cause us problems. They’re a formidable team,” Mendes stated during a pre-match press conference.

The upcoming match marks the third encounter between PSG and Brest this season, with the Parisian club having secured wins in both previous Ligue 1 fixtures. PSG currently maintains an undefeated record against French teams in the 2024-25 season and is riding a four-game winning streak across all competitions.

Mendes praised the team’s current form and the coach’s strategy, saying, “We’re in good shape now. The coach has done an excellent job, and we understand our roles on the field clearly.”

In contrast, Brest’s recent European performance has been mixed. After securing a spot in the next round, they lost their final two Champions League matches without scoring. However, they’ve since rebounded with two consecutive competitive victories following a 5-2 loss to PSG in early February.

The match, set to take place in Guingamp, will be a historic moment as it marks the first time PSG faces a French team in the Champions League knockout stages. The only previous all-French Champions League knockout tie occurred in the 2009-10 quarter-finals when Lyon eliminated Bordeaux.

As both teams prepare for this crucial encounter, the football world eagerly anticipates an exciting and potentially closely contested match between these two French sides.
