PSG Eyes Mike Maignan as Potential Successor to Donnarumma
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is reportedly considering a change in their goalkeeper position, with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan emerging as a potential replacement for current first-choice Gianluigi Donnarumma. The French club’s management, particularly head coach Luis Enrique, has expressed dissatisfaction with Donnarumma’s recent performances.
This discontent was evident in PSG’s summer acquisition of Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, who has occasionally stepped in for Donnarumma, even in crucial Champions League matches. While Lille OSC’s Lucas Chevalier remains a priority target for PSG, the club is also showing interest in bringing Maignan back to the Parc des Princes.
Maignan, a product of PSG’s youth academy, currently plays for AC Milan with a contract until 2026. However, negotiations for an extension have not yet been finalized. Should PSG succeed in signing either Maignan or Chevalier, it could pave the way for Donnarumma’s departure, with a return to Italy being a possible outcome.
This potential goalkeeper shuffle underscores PSG’s commitment to strengthening their squad and addressing perceived weaknesses in key positions as they continue to pursue domestic and European success.
