PSG Signals Donnarumma’s Demotion, Fueling Transfer Speculation

According to recent reports, Paris Saint-Germain has informed Italian international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma that he will no longer be their first-choice keeper for the upcoming season. This move appears to be an attempt to encourage the player to consider offers from Premier League clubs.

Donnarumma`s current contract with PSG runs until June 2026, but negotiations for an extension have reached an impasse. The goalkeeper has reportedly refused to accept a salary reduction or a performance-based pay structure.

French transfer expert Fabrice Hawkins, reporting for RMC Sport, claims that PSG has taken this step to expedite Donnarumma`s departure. The club must sell him this summer to avoid losing him as a free agent when his contract expires.

PSG`s Strategy to Prompt Donnarumma`s Exit

The Parisian club has allegedly informed Donnarumma that he will be relegated to a backup role, with Lucas Chevalier, expected to join from LOSC, taking over as the primary goalkeeper. This move is seen as a tactical decision to make Donnarumma more receptive to transfer offers, particularly from the Premier League.

Several top English clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City, have expressed interest in acquiring Donnarumma`s services. However, it remains to be seen whether the Italian keeper will acquiesce to PSG`s pressure or choose to fight for his position, as he has done in the past.

This situation has evolved into a test of wills between the player and the club, with Donnarumma potentially prepared to compete for the starting position once again, despite PSG`s apparent preference for his departure.
