PSG’s Belief in Champions League Progress Against Liverpool Remains Strong

Despite suffering a 1-0 loss at home to Liverpool on Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain’s confidence in their chances of advancing in the UEFA Champions League is reportedly unshaken. In fact, sources suggest their belief has only grown, according to reports from L’Équipe.

PSG dominated the first leg match, taking a total of 27 shots. Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson was in outstanding form, making nine saves and delivering what he described as his best ever performance. Without his heroics, PSG would likely have traveled to Anfield with a lead. However, it was Liverpool who secured an advantage thanks to a late goal from Harvey Elliott, in a game that former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher controversially labeled as “one of the biggest robberies in football.”

Fueled by their dominant performance in the first leg, PSG heads to Liverpool with significant confidence. A source within the club told L’Équipe that “Despite the defeat, they are more confident about qualifying now than they were before the match.” It’s understood that the PSG squad were “surprised” by the level of Liverpool’s play.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was responsible for Elliott’s late goal, but he received immediate support from his teammates after the game. They reassured him, saying, “Don’t worry, we’ll go through.” There is a palpable sense of confidence at PSG’s training ground, Le Campus. However, only time will tell if this confidence translates into a positive result at Anfield.
