Tonight marks a special occasion for Paris Saint-Germain as they travel to Brittany for a Champions League knockout play-off match against Stade Brestois. The game, hosted at Guingamp’s Stade Roudourou, will see PSG captain Marquinhos achieve a remarkable milestone: his 100th appearance in the prestigious European competition.
Since joining Paris Saint-Germain from AS Roma in 2013, Marquinhos has become an essential figure for the club. Throughout his 12 seasons, he has become PSG’s record appearance holder, playing 468 games, contributing 38 goals and 12 assists.
Marquinhos made an immediate impression in his debut European match for Paris on September 17, 2013, against Olympiakos, scoring in a 4-1 victory. Since then, he has been central to PSG’s European campaigns, notably playing a key role in their journey to the 2020 Champions League final.
During his time with PSG, Marquinhos has amassed an impressive collection of 31 trophies, including nine Ligue 1 titles, nine Trophées des Champions, seven Coupe de France titles, and six Coupe de la Ligue titles. Les Parisiens and their coach, Luis Enrique, have high hopes for a successful Champions League run this season, aiming to surpass their semi-final achievement from last season.
While Marquinhos has experienced Champions League matches in diverse locations, his 100th game will take place in the Breton climate of Guingamp. For PSG to fulfill their and Marquinhos’ ambitions in the competition, they must not underestimate Stade Brestois both tonight and in the return leg at the Parc des Princes next week.
