Ranieri Explains Roma’s Squad Rotation and Addresses Transfer Rumors
Claudio Ranieri, Roma’s head coach, has shed light on the team’s squad rotation strategy following their 1-1 draw against Serie A leaders Napoli. He emphasized the necessity of bringing in fresh players after the team’s Europa League exertions earlier in the week.
The Giallorossi made significant changes to their lineup, resting key players like Artem Dovbyk, Paulo Dybala, Leandro Paredes, and Mats Hummels. Despite these alterations, Roma managed to secure a late equalizer through Angelino, canceling out Leonardo Spinazzola’s earlier goal for Napoli.
Ranieri explained, “After Thursday’s match, it was crucial to introduce new players to maintain our energy levels. While I have complete faith in all my squad members, naturally, such extensive changes affect our usual playing style. However, with our tight schedule, making six changes was the right decision to ensure we had fresh legs on the field.”
When questioned about Roma’s priorities between Serie A, Europa League, and Coppa Italia, Ranieri maintained a cautious approach. “We must take each game as it comes. It would be unfair to our supporters to claim we’re targeting one competition over another. Our commitment is to give our absolute best in every match we play,” he stated.
Addressing recent transfer rumors, particularly following Nicola Zalewski’s loan move to Inter, Ranieri humorously dismissed claims of player discontent. “If any players were asking to leave, I’d personally drive them to the airport,” he joked. “I can assure you that everyone at Roma is content and committed to the club.”
Looking ahead to Roma’s upcoming Coppa Italia quarter-final against Milan, Ranieri acknowledged the challenge. “Milan is a team brimming with talent, and we’re well aware of their capabilities. We’ll approach the game with our own strategy, and may the best team prevail on the night,” he concluded.
