Ranieri Quips About Roma Future After Victory: “I’ve Already Retired Once!”
Following AS Roma’s 3-1 triumph over Genoa, manager Claudio Ranieri humorously addressed speculation about his future with the club. The veteran coach, who was brought in as a caretaker until the end of the season, playfully remarked, “I’ve already said I retired once, yet here I am again!”
Roma continued their impressive run of form at the Stadio Olimpico, securing their seventh consecutive home victory across all competitions. The win came against a stubborn Genoa side that had been undefeated away from home since Patrick Vieira took charge in November.
Ranieri praised the team’s perseverance and dedication, especially highlighting the impact of substitute Stephan El Shaarawy. The Italian forward came on at halftime for the injured Lorenzo Pellegrini and changed the game with a curling shot from outside the box.
The Roma boss also expressed his gratitude to the 62,000 fans who attended the Friday night match, saying, “We must do everything for these people because their love for the club knows no bounds.”
Looking ahead, Ranieri acknowledged the importance of Roma’s upcoming Europa League fixture against AZ Alkmaar. He emphasized the team’s good form but remained cautious about the challenge ahead.
When pressed about his future beyond this season, Ranieri deflected with humor: “Look, I don’t want to say anything. I already said I had retired and then here I am back again! Leave me alone!” He added with a laugh, “I had already decided a year ago that I wanted to quit. So I’ll quit in the future…”
As Roma continues to climb the Serie A table and compete in Europe, the question of Ranieri’s long-term involvement with the club remains open, adding an intriguing subplot to their season.
