Ranieri Skeptical of Roma’s Champions League Hopes, Demands More from Dovbyk
Roma manager Claudio Ranieri has expressed doubts about the team’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League this season. With only six matches remaining and a five-point gap to the top four, Ranieri believes it would be unrealistic to expect Roma to secure a Champions League spot.
“To be honest, I wouldn’t bet on our Champions League qualification,” Ranieri stated in a press conference. “It would require other teams to falter significantly while we perform exceptionally well. We must be transparent with our supporters about our current situation.”
The Italian coach acknowledged the team’s impressive recovery in the latter half of the season but noted that they are not at their peak performance level. He emphasized the importance of fan support during the final stretch of games.
Regarding Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk, Ranieri remains unsatisfied with his contributions. “Dovbyk needs to make himself more available and the team should utilize him better when he makes runs,” Ranieri explained. “While scoring is important, I expect him to excel in other aspects such as pressing and overall performance. He’s improving, but there’s still room for growth.”
Ranieri also expressed disappointment with the team’s defensive lapses, particularly in set-piece situations. “We’ve conceded around ten goals from set pieces, which is unacceptable for a team with high ambitions,” he stated. “This issue can only be resolved through dedicated training and hard work.”
As Roma prepares for their upcoming home game against Hellas Verona, Ranieri’s realistic approach and demand for improvement highlight the challenges facing the team in the final stages of the Serie A season.
