Ranieri Steps Down from Coaching at 73, Embraces Mysterious New Role with Roma
Claudio Ranieri, the renowned Italian football manager, has announced his decision to retire from coaching at the age of 73. In a surprising revelation, he shared that he will be taking on a new position as a “senior advisor” to AS Roma, although he admits to being uncertain about the exact nature of this role.
Ranieri’s illustrious career saw a remarkable resurgence when he came out of retirement in November 2024 to rescue his beloved Roma. Under his guidance, the team achieved an impressive record of 19 victories, 7 draws, and only 6 defeats across all competitions.
When asked about his success in transforming the squad, Ranieri humbly stated, “I don’t have any special psychological techniques. I simply speak from the heart and share my honest thoughts with the players.”
Despite pleas from players, club officials, and fans to reconsider, Ranieri remains firm in his decision to retire at the season’s end. He explained, “It’s time for the younger generation to take the lead. Football has given me so much, and now I’m ready for a new challenge. I’ve given my all, and there comes a time to say enough is enough.”
Regarding his future role with Roma, Ranieri humorously confessed, “I agreed to one more year as a coach, and then to become a senior advisor to Roma, even though I’m not entirely sure what that entails.”
As Roma searches for Ranieri’s successor, speculation arose about potential discussions with Atalanta’s manager Gian Piero Gasperini. When questioned about this, Ranieri playfully responded, “No talks yet, but if we do have any, it’ll be right in front of all of you!”
Ranieri’s retirement marks the end of an era in football management, leaving behind a legacy of success, humility, and unwavering dedication to the sport.
