Olympique Lyonnais turned down Borussia Dortmund’s offer of €22.5 million for Rayan Cherki on transfer deadline day.
Lyon stated that the offer was too late in the transfer window to consider, as they would not have enough time to find a replacement for such an important attacking player. Furthermore, after selling Maxence Caqueret, Gift Orban, and Saïd Benrahma, the club was no longer under pressure to sell players.
Despite Lyon’s explanation for rejecting the offer, reports indicate that Cherki personally asked the club to agree to the transfer. He reportedly sent an official letter to the club’s management requesting them to accept Dortmund’s proposal.

Sources suggest that Lyon believes Cherki’s transfer value will significantly increase by the summer, and they expect Dortmund to make another attempt to sign him then.
