Real Madrid appears to be considering a managerial change this summer, with Alvaro Arbeloa’s position at the Bernabeu not guaranteed beyond the current season. The main challenge lies in identifying a suitable successor given the limited pool of clear candidates on the market.
The club’s hierarchy reportedly has reservations about Arbeloa’s long-term suitability for the role, especially after accumulating four defeats in 13 matches, a record mirroring Xabi Alonso’s. It’s understood that strong performances against Celta Vigo and Manchester City are crucial to alleviate growing concerns at the Bernabeu. To address this, Arbeloa recently held urgent discussions with his squad.
Real Madrid Reportedly Contacts Max Allegri
According to a report in CdS, cited by Marca, Real Madrid has established contact with AC Milan coach Massimiliano ‘Max’ Allegri. They have reportedly explored his interest in taking over the managerial position this summer. Allegri is currently contracted with the Rossoneri until 2027 but is understood to have a release clause in his deal.

Allegri was previously among President Florentino Perez’s top choices to succeed Zinedine Zidane in 2021. However, after Allegri opted to remain with Juventus, Los Blancos ultimately appointed Carlo Ancelotti.
Alternative Managerial Options
It appears that former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains the preferred choice for Los Blancos, though persuading him out of retirement presents a significant hurdle. Real Madrid has also reportedly approached Aston Villa manager Unai Emery in recent months, who has successfully rebuilt his reputation in the Premier League following challenging stints at Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. Allegri, while perhaps a less conventional option, brings a proven track record of managing prominent football institutions.
