Real Madrid targets Tottenham defender in potential £99 million move
Real Madrid has set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven as a potential summer transfer target. The Spanish giants are reportedly willing to pay up to £99 million for the Dutch center-back, which would be a world record fee for a defender.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou faces the prospect of losing another key player, after already seeing Harry Kane depart for Bayern Munich last summer. However, the North London club is not planning to let van de Ven leave cheaply.
Van de Ven has been crucial to Tottenham’s high defensive line when fit, forming a strong partnership with Cristian Romero. However, both defenders have struggled with injuries for much of this season.
Meanwhile, Tottenham is pursuing their own transfer targets. The club is confident of making Mathys Tel’s loan move from Bayern Munich permanent, with the French teenager already agreeing to a 6-year contract. Spurs are also reportedly interested in Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.
As Real Madrid looks to bolster their backline, Tottenham will likely demand a record-breaking fee to part with van de Ven. The potential £99 million price tag would surpass the £80 million Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire in 2019.
With the summer transfer window approaching, both clubs appear set for a high-stakes negotiation over one of the Premier League’s most promising young defenders.
