Real Sociedad advances in Copa del Rey with 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano

Real Sociedad defeated Rayo Vallecano 3-1 in their Copa del Rey Round of 16 match on January 16. The game was played at Reale Arena in San Sebastian.

Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring for Real Sociedad in the 23rd minute. Jon Olasagasti doubled their lead just before halftime. Oscar Trejo pulled one back for Rayo Vallecano from the penalty spot, but Sergio Gomez sealed the win for Real Sociedad with a 79th minute goal.

Russian midfielder Arsen Zakharyan did not feature for Real Sociedad in this match. The 21-year-old is expected to return to action soon as he recovers from injury.

In another Copa del Rey match, Athletic Bilbao lost 3-2 at home to Osasuna. Oscar de Marcos and Nico Williams scored for Athletic, but a brace from Ante Budimir and a goal from Aimar Oroz gave Osasuna the victory.
