Referee who sent off Bellingham issues statement on investigation into his non-football activities
Spanish referee Jose Munuera Montero has released a statement in response to reports in Spanish media about an investigation into his non-football activities.
“Recently, it has become clear that there is excessive pressure on the refereeing body. This time, I have become the main focus,” Montero stated.
He explained that Talentus Sports Speakers, a company owned by Jose Luis Munuera, has not invoiced any sports organizations since its creation. The purpose of this portal is to enhance the value of potential speakers, mainly young aspirants seeking their first job, by publishing numerous job offers.
Montero clarified that hundreds of job listings published by companies or sports organizations have been shared, redirecting directly to each organization’s LinkedIn profile. In all cases, this was done without any compensation from the companies, clubs, or organizations involved.
The referee concluded by stating his intention to file appropriate civil and criminal lawsuits against media outlets that have deliberately or recklessly spread incorrect, false, or biased information.
The investigation into Montero came to light after the match between Real Madrid and Osasuna in the 24th round of La Liga, which ended in a 1-1 draw. During the game, the referee showed a straight red card to Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham for insulting the official. The referee also awarded a penalty against Real Madrid.
