Rennes Close to Signing Seko Fofana from Al-Nassr for €20 Million
French club Rennes are on the verge of securing a deal to bring Ivory Coast international midfielder Seko Fofana back to Ligue 1. The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Al-Ettifaq from Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
Fofana previously starred for RC Lens, helping them finish second in Ligue 1 in 2023 before moving to the Saudi Pro League. His potential return to France has been facilitated by his relationship with Rennes president Arnaud Pouille, who previously worked as CEO at Lens.
Reports suggest Rennes will pay over €20 million for Fofana, who is expected to sign a four-year contract. The midfielder is said to be excited about the prospect of working under Rennes manager Jorge Sampaoli, who had previously attempted to sign him while coaching Marseille.
If completed, this transfer would mark the second time Rennes have acquired a player from the Saudi Pro League this winter, following their signing of Jota from Al-Ittihad. Fofana’s arrival would significantly bolster Rennes’ midfield options as they aim to climb the Ligue 1 table in the second half of the season.
