Rennes in Negotiations with Marseille for Midfielder Ismaël Koné
Stade Rennais has entered into discussions with Olympique de Marseille concerning midfielder Ismaël Koné, the 22-year-old Canadian international. Koné, who joined Marseille from Watford FC last summer for a reported €12 million, could potentially follow in the footsteps of Lilian Brassier, who recently moved from Marseille to Rennes.
Rennes’ sporting director, Frederic Massara, is reportedly pushing for a loan deal similar to Brassier’s arrangement. However, Rennes faces competition from Italian club Fiorentina and Spanish side Valencia, who have also expressed interest in acquiring Koné during the current transfer window.
Currently sitting in 16th place in the league table, Rennes has been actively seeking to strengthen their squad to avoid a potential relegation battle. The pursuit of Koné represents part of their efforts to bolster their team and improve their standing in the league.
As negotiations progress, it remains to be seen whether Rennes will successfully secure Koné’s services, or if the competition from other clubs will influence the outcome of this potential transfer.
