Rennes Secures Loan Deal for Defender Lilian Brassier
Stade Rennais FC has announced the acquisition of centre-back Lilian Brassier on loan from Stade Brestois 29. The 25-year-old French defender joins Rennes with a €12 million option to make the transfer permanent until 2029.
Brassier spent the first half of the current Ligue 1 season on loan at Olympique de Marseille. However, his performances at the Vélodrome fell short of expectations, leading Marseille to decline their purchase option. This opened the door for Rennes to secure the defender’s services.
Rennes, Brassier’s youth academy club, sought to reinforce their struggling defense with an experienced Ligue 1 centre-back. The move comes after disappointing performances from recent signings Leo Ostigard and Hans Hateboer.
Brassier has completed his medical examination and could make his debut for Rennes in their upcoming match against RC Strasbourg on Sunday. He becomes the fourth player to join Rennes during the winter transfer window, following the arrivals of Seko Fofana, Brice Samba, and Kyogo Furuhashi.
This loan signing represents a strategic move by Rennes to shore up their defensive line and improve their performance in the second half of the Ligue 1 season.
