Rennes Set to Appoint Strasbourg’s Recruitment Chief Loïc Désiré
Stade Rennais is on the verge of hiring RC Strasbourg Alsace’s head of recruitment, Loïc Désiré, as their new sporting director. This move comes after a challenging season for the Breton club, which has fallen short of its European football aspirations.
Désiré is set to replace Frederic Massara, who joined Rennes just last summer. Massara’s tenure has been marked by disappointing results from the club’s significant investment in player recruitment. Despite a substantial financial outlay, the new signings failed to make the expected impact, leaving the team struggling in the lower mid-table positions.
With 11 years of experience at Strasbourg, Désiré brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. His decision to join Rennes comes in the wake of BlueCo’s takeover of Strasbourg in 2023, which led to changes in the club’s structure and Désiré’s reduced prominence.
The move represents a return to Brittany for Désiré, who has expressed enthusiasm for the new challenge. His appointment is expected to be finalized at the end of the current season, as Rennes looks to rebuild and improve their performance in the coming years.
