Italian international striker Mateo Retegui is now considering a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah. The deal could see him earn up to €20 million per season, including bonuses.
Initially hesitant about moving to the Saudi Pro League at this stage of his career, Retegui has warmed to the idea following negotiations. The substantial salary package appears to have alleviated his concerns.
With Retegui now open to the transfer, the ball is in Al-Qadsiah`s court to meet Atalanta`s valuation. The Italian club has set an asking price of around €60 million for their prized asset.
Atalanta stands to make a significant profit on Retegui, having signed him for €21.9 million from Genoa less than a year ago. The 26-year-old has been a revelation in Bergamo, claiming the Serie A top scorer title with 25 goals and 8 assists in 36 appearances.
Retegui has also impressed on the international stage, scoring 6 goals in 20 appearances for Italy. It remains to be seen how a move to Saudi Arabia might impact his standing with the national team.
As Atalanta prepares for Retegui`s potential departure, they have already identified Udinese`s Italian forward Lorenzo Lucca as a possible replacement.
