Rising Star Rayan Cherki Exits France U21 Squad Due to Injury
Olympique Lyonnais’ young talent Rayan Cherki, aged 21, delivered a stellar performance for France’s U21 team in their match against England U21s in Lorient on Friday evening. Cherki’s impressive display included two assists and a goal, showcasing his potential for a future spot in the senior national team.
However, Cherki’s outstanding contribution will be his sole appearance during this international break. The French Football Federation (FFF) has confirmed that the promising forward has departed from the U21 squad due to a foot contusion sustained during the match. He has since returned to his club for further assessment and treatment.
In addition to Cherki’s exit, AS Monaco defender Christian Mawissa has also left the squad. Despite not featuring in the England match, Mawissa has been experiencing discomfort in his adductor muscles. Both players have already departed from the national team setup.
The FFF has stated that no replacements will be called up for the departed duo. The France U21 team, known as Les Bleuets, is scheduled to face Slovakia’s U21 side in their next fixture on Monday.
