Roberto De Zerbi Addresses Mason Greenwood’s Situation at Marseille
Mason Greenwood, who joined Marseille from Manchester United last summer, has been facing challenges in maintaining his status as a key player for the French club. Recent reports suggested that Greenwood has until the end of the season to regain the trust of the Marseille coach or risk being transferred.
During a press conference on Friday, Roberto De Zerbi addressed the situation surrounding Greenwood. The coach emphasized the need for clarity, stating, “We must address the Mason Greenwood situation, as there has been some misinterpretation in the media.”
De Zerbi expressed his fondness for Greenwood, describing him as “a very good person” and mentioning his affection for the player’s father as well. He acknowledged that Greenwood has been going through a challenging period, partly due to the recent birth of his daughter and the demands of an intense season as a key player.
The coach explained, “Greenwood’s physical condition has somewhat declined. He may not have been pushing himself to 100% in training, as I would expect from a player of his caliber. This could be attributed to the adjustment of becoming a main player and the intensity of the season.”
De Zerbi also highlighted his broader vision for Marseille, stating, “My project at Marseille extends beyond qualifying for the Champions League. I aim to build something similar to what Luis Enrique has created – a team of strong players with a unified spirit.”
Despite the recent challenges, De Zerbi’s comments suggest a continued belief in Greenwood’s potential and a commitment to integrating him into the team’s long-term plans.
