Roma 1-1 Napoli: Late Angelino Goal Stuns Serie A Leaders
Roma managed to snatch a 1-1 draw against Serie A leaders Napoli with a dramatic stoppage time equalizer from Angelino. Leonardo Spinazzola had given Napoli the lead in the first half with a delightful lob, but Roma fought back to earn a point.
The home side rotated their squad following their Europa League win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday. Bryan Cristante returned to the starting lineup after a lengthy absence, while Romelu Lukaku faced his former club.
Napoli broke the deadlock in style on 29 minutes. Spinazzola timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap and lobbed the onrushing Mile Svilar with a precise finish from a tight angle. The winger chose not to celebrate against his former team.
Roma pressed for an equalizer in the second half and were denied by the woodwork when Leandro Paredes struck the post with a free kick on 75 minutes. It was the 12th time this season Roma have hit the frame of the goal in Serie A.
The Giallorossi’s persistence finally paid off deep into stoppage time. Alexis Saelemaekers delivered a cross from the right which Angelino volleyed home through a crowd of players to spark wild celebrations at the Stadio Olimpico.
The late equalizer denied Napoli the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table. Roma will feel they deserved a point for their efforts, especially after being frustrated by the woodwork once again.
