Roma Faces Challenges in Renewing Svilar’s Contract
AS Roma is experiencing significant hurdles in their attempts to renegotiate a contract with goalkeeper Mile Svilar. The current negotiations have reached an impasse, with both parties far from reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.
Svilar’s existing contract, which runs until June 2027, provides him with an annual salary of €1 million. Roma has proposed an extension that would increase his earnings to €1.6 million per year, with additional performance-based bonuses. However, this offer is considered substantially below expectations, especially given Svilar’s promotion to the team’s primary goalkeeper this season.
Svilar’s Rising Status at Roma
The 25-year-old Serbian goalkeeper joined Roma as a free agent from Benfica in 2022. Initially serving as a backup, Svilar has now established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, significantly elevating his value to the team.
Several clubs have expressed interest in Svilar, including Fenerbahce and potentially Manchester City. His experience working under José Mourinho has further enhanced his appeal in the transfer market.
If Roma fails to secure a new agreement with Svilar, they may be compelled to sell him to avoid losing him on a free transfer when his current contract expires in 2027. This situation puts pressure on both the club and the player to find a resolution that satisfies all parties involved.
