Roma overcome Genoa 3-1 led by El Shaarawy
Roma earned a hard-fought 3-1 win against Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico, ending Genoa’s unbeaten away record this season. Stephan El Shaarawy celebrated his 300th appearance for Roma with a superb curling goal that proved decisive.
Artem Dovbyk opened the scoring for Roma in the 25th minute, tapping in from close range after good work from Alexis Saelemaekers. Genoa equalized through Patrizio Masini’s volley just before halftime.
El Shaarawy restored Roma’s lead on the hour mark with a brilliant curling effort into the far corner. An own goal from Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Leali in the 73rd minute sealed the win for Roma.
The victory moves Roma up to 5th place in Serie A, while Genoa remain in 12th. Roma dominated possession and created more chances throughout the match, recording 16 shots to Genoa’s 7.
Roma manager Jose Mourinho will be pleased with the performance, especially from El Shaarawy on his milestone appearance. The win provides a boost for Roma as they look to secure European qualification this season.
