AS Roma has announced plans to adopt a modernized version of one of their historic emblems as the official club crest starting from the 2025-26 season. This decision marks a significant change from the logo variants used since 1997.
The new crest is a contemporary adaptation of the emblem worn by the team during two previous periods: 1950-59 and 1961-77. Club owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin revealed this change in an end-of-season statement, emphasizing its importance to Roma`s identity and tradition.
The Friedkins stated, “This decision, made with deep respect for our heritage and in response to our supporters` wishes, pays tribute to Roma`s identity. It reflects our belief in the significance of club symbols and the importance of honoring our roots while building our future.”
The statement also reaffirmed the owners` commitment to the club`s future, including plans for a new stadium described as “a majestic new colosseum” for fans and the city of Rome.
In addition to the crest change, Roma confirmed that Claudio Ranieri will continue his involvement with the club as “manager and senior advisor to the ownership” from this summer. The 73-year-old, who served as interim head coach since November following Ivan Juric`s departure, will transition into an advisory role.
Furthermore, the club announced the appointment of Gian Piero Gasperini as the new head coach, following his nine-year tenure at Atalanta.
