Roma Secures First January Signing: Devyne Rensch Joins from Ajax
AS Roma has officially announced the acquisition of versatile defender Devyne Rensch from Ajax for a fee of approximately €5 million. The Dutch player has committed to a long-term contract with the Italian club, extending until 2029.
Rensch, a 20-year-old Netherlands international, primarily plays as a right-back but is capable of filling multiple defensive roles. His arrival at the Stadio Olimpico marks Roma’s first signing of the January transfer window under manager Claudio Ranieri.
The young defender’s contract at Ajax was set to expire in 2025, allowing Roma to secure his services at a relatively modest price. Rensch is expected to earn around €1.2 million per season with his new club.
Ajax’s director, Ales Kroes, expressed mixed feelings about the transfer, acknowledging Rensch’s contributions to the club while wishing him success in Serie A. Rensch becomes the seventh Dutch player to join Roma, following in the footsteps of notable compatriots like Kevin Strootman and Georginio Wijnaldum.
With this signing, Roma aims to strengthen their defensive options as they push for a strong finish in the second half of the Serie A season. Rensch will wear the number 2 shirt for his new team.
