AS Roma`s reluctance to meet Palmeiras` €30 million valuation for Richard Rios has created an opportunity for Benfica to step in and potentially secure the promising midfielder`s signature. Despite ongoing negotiations, Roma has yet to table the required offer that would have swiftly concluded the deal.

The Italian club has been aware of Palmeiras` asking price for some time, but as of July 18, they have not reached the €30 million threshold that would have sealed the agreement almost immediately. This hesitation has allowed Benfica to position themselves as serious contenders for Rios` services.

Benfica has already made significant progress by reaching personal terms with the player. The Portuguese giants are now focusing their efforts on finalizing the transfer with Palmeiras. They have successfully convinced Rios that their club offers the most suitable environment for his development, while Roma appears unwilling to increase their bid further.

In a strategic move, Benfica`s chief executive Manuel Rui Costa personally contacted Rios, underlining the club`s commitment to securing his transfer. This direct approach has seemingly tilted the scales in Benfica`s favor.

Meanwhile, Roma has shifted its attention elsewhere, with Neil El Aynaoui set to undergo a medical examination this weekend. The Italian club has agreed to a deal worth €25 million, including add-ons, with RC Lens for the player`s services.

As the transfer saga unfolds, it appears that Roma`s hesitation may cost them the opportunity to sign Richard Rios, while Benfica`s proactive approach could see them emerge victorious in this high-stakes transfer battle.
