Ronald Araújo’s Potential Departure from Barcelona
Ronald Araújo’s time at FC Barcelona may be coming to an end. The Uruguayan center-back has been strongly linked with a move to Juventus in recent days. Italian media reports suggest that an agreement between the player and the Turin club has already been reached, with only Barcelona’s approval pending.
According to Italian newspaper ‘La Repubblica’, Juventus is considering either a loan with an option to buy or an immediate purchase. Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, has acknowledged the delicate situation surrounding the defender.
Laporta Confirms Possible Departure
While not going into specifics, Laporta confirmed during a press conference that Araújo has requested to leave: “Certain circumstances have arisen that I won’t detail, but I hope all parties end up satisfied. There’s room to find a solution for everyone.” Nevertheless, the president expressed the club’s desire for Araújo to stay: “We believe all players are very useful for Barcelona and we want him to continue. He’s in talks with Deco and we’ll find a solution. We appreciate him both professionally and personally.”
Araújo is reportedly unhappy with his role in the team, and coupled with the lack of agreement on a contract renewal (his current contract ends in 2026), he may be considering a move. The defender is expecting a renewal, but Barcelona’s financial problems could prevent them from meeting his expectations.
Juventus Eager for Immediate Transfer
There’s consensus that Juventus wants Araújo immediately. Coach Thiago Motta is looking for a center-back, and the Uruguayan is the favorite of both the coach and the club. This has fueled rumors of an imminent departure, which is already considered a done deal in Italy. However, the reality seems far from an agreement, at least in the short term, as Iñigo Martínez’s injury makes it difficult for Barcelona to easily part ways with the player. The situation will likely develop further in the coming days.
