Sacchi Recommends Offensive Approach for Inter Against Bayern
Arrigo Sacchi, the former head coach of AC Milan and the Italian national team, has shared his insights on Inter’s upcoming Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich. Sacchi recommends an offensive strategy for Simone Inzaghi’s team in Wednesday’s crucial match at San Siro.
Inter currently holds a 2-1 advantage in the tie, thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi in the first leg in Bavaria. However, the Nerazzurri still face a challenging task to secure their place in the semi-finals.
Sacchi’s Tactical Advice: Attack as the Best Defense
Despite Inter boasting the best defensive record in this season’s Champions League, conceding only three goals in ten matches, Sacchi believes that a more attacking approach could be key against the German giants.
Sacchi suggests that top European teams in the Champions League tend to focus more on offense than defense, which could leave spaces for Inter to exploit. He writes in his La Gazzetta dello Sport column, “Reflecting on the first leg, a more attacking attitude would be preferable. The Nerazzurri should not get caught up in the Germans’ possession game. At San Siro, attack is often the best form of defense.”
The former coach emphasizes Inter’s current strong form, highlighting their recent dominant performance against Cagliari. He notes that Inter excels in controlling opponents, playing attractive football, defending well, and attacking in numbers.
Sacchi points out a potential advantage for Inter: “Unlike other teams in the Champions League, including potential future opponents like Barcelona, Inter are more stable defensively. Foreign teams often focus on attack but may be less attentive when they don’t have the ball. Inter must fully capitalize on this advantage.”
