“Yes, I am doing well in Rome,” begins Alexis Saelemaekers in an interview with Idealista. The AS Roma winger discussed his adaptation to life in the capital city: “I found a welcoming environment and fans who supported me from the start. This has been very important for me.”
The Derby Goal
What did it mean to score in the derby?
“It was a great joy because these matches mean so much to the fans. For us players, they are an extra motivation because we know how emotionally important they are. The Rome derby is definitely one of the most significant in Italy, and the joy of winning it was immense.”
Life in Rome
What aspect of the city do you like most, and what surprised you the most?
“Rome needs no introduction; it’s a wonderful city, the capital of the world for a reason. Its history and charm are incredible. However, what surprised me the most, and it does bother me a bit (smiles), is the traffic.”
Future House in Rome?
Have you ever thought about buying a house in Rome?
“I haven’t given it much thought yet; I’ve only been here for a few months. However, I am certainly interested in this market and am considering my options.”
The Situation with AC Milan
THE SITUATION – There was a verbal agreement between Roma and Milan last summer for Saelemaekers valued at 8-10 million euros. However, difficulties in reaching an agreement on Abraham’s price led both clubs to finalize both deals as dry loans. This is why AS Roma was reportedly annoyed with AC Milan when Furlani requested over 25 million euros during the January summit. Roma remains determined and plans to intensify contact in the coming days to find an agreement. Much will depend on Saelemaekers’ willingness. The feeling is that an agreement could be reached midway, around 20 million euros, but it remains to be seen if Ghisolfi will offer this amount.
