Saint-Étienne defender Dylan Batubinsika, aged 29, experienced an assault after his team’s loss to OGC Nice in Ligue 1 last weekend. Following the match, as he was leaving Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, Batubinsika was approached by a supporter seemingly wanting an autograph. However, when he lowered his car window, he was unexpectedly punched in the face.
Reports indicate that Batubinsika, an international player for DR Congo, has officially filed a legal complaint with authorities regarding this assault.
The assailant was described as appearing intoxicated and holding a beer. Despite police being in close proximity, the individual managed to escape and has not yet been identified. CCTV footage is being reviewed to help identify the attacker. AS Saint-Étienne has expressed its solidarity with Batubinsika and plans to initiate civil action in connection with the legal proceedings.
In the match, Saint-Étienne was defeated by Nice 3-1. The team currently occupies a precarious position in Ligue 1, sitting second from bottom with 19 points. They are facing crucial upcoming games against Le Havre and Montpellier, which will be significant in their fight against relegation.
