Milan’s Mayor, Giuseppe Sala, is taking decisive steps to resolve the ongoing situation concerning the Meazza Stadium, widely known as San Siro. As reported by Corriere della Sera, Mayor Sala has formally invited representatives from both Inter Milan and AC Milan to a meeting at the City Hall today.
This meeting is prompted by the fact that neither club has yet submitted the financial feasibility plan required to purchase San Siro and its surrounding areas. The American ownership groups of both clubs, Oaktree and RedBird, are reportedly still working to overcome final disagreements, particularly concerning a clause detailing the implications if either club were to back out of the agreement.
In his letter, Mayor Sala stated that he is aware of reported disagreements between the clubs regarding the purchase proposal but anticipates its imminent arrival. He stressed the necessity for the city administration to promptly plan and make decisions about the stadium’s future, given the project’s significance and the complexities of the regulatory and procedural context.
The primary objective is to finalize the sale by next summer, before the Superintendency imposes preservation restrictions on the stadium’s second tier in September. Following the sale, the City Council will need to manage the subsequent procedures, including organizing a service conference to formally declare the public interest in the matter.
