Saudi Arabian Club Expresses Interest in Montpellier’s Midfielder Téji Savanier
Recent reports suggest that Al-Taawoun, a football club based in Saudi Arabia, has set its sights on Téji Savanier, the 33-year-old midfielder currently playing for Montpellier HSC in France’s Ligue 1.
Savanier, who came through Montpellier’s youth academy, made his return to the club in 2019 after a stint with Nîmes Olympique. Since then, he has become an integral part of the team’s midfield. However, his tenure as captain came to an end a few weeks ago when he was relieved of the role.
This season has proven challenging for Montpellier, as they currently find themselves at the bottom of the league table. Savanier has not been immune to criticism, particularly following an incident where he reacted poorly to a fan’s comments after the team’s elimination from the Coupe de France by lower-league side Le Puy.
In an unexpected turn of events, there are now indications that Montpellier may be open to Savanier’s departure before the transfer window closes. Taking advantage of this situation, Al-Taawoun has reportedly made an attractive offer to the player.
As the January transfer deadline approaches, it remains to be seen whether Savanier will make the move to Saudi Arabia or continue his career with Montpellier in their fight against relegation.
