Serie A: Bologna salvages draw against Empoli with stunning Dominguez volley
Bologna managed to earn a point on the road against Empoli with a 1-1 draw, thanks to a magnificent volley from Benjamin Dominguez that canceled out Lorenzo Colombo’s opening goal for the home side.
The visitors appeared to be suffering from a Champions League hangover after their midweek victory over Borussia Dortmund. Empoli took the lead in the 24th minute when Colombo turned in Giuseppe Pezzella’s cross from close range.
However, Bologna equalized just before halftime with a spectacular right-footed volley from Dominguez at the back post off a cross from Charalampos Lykogiannis.
Both teams had chances to find a winner in the second half. Colombo narrowly missed connecting with a Fazzini cross, while Sam Beukema forced a reaction save from Empoli goalkeeper Devis Vasquez late on.
In the end, the points were shared as neither side could find a decisive goal. The result leaves Bologna in 7th place, while Empoli remain just above the relegation zone in 17th.
