Serie A: Como Shocks Fiorentina 2-0 as Young Stars Shine
Como pulled off a surprising 2-0 win against Fiorentina in Serie A’s early Sunday match. Young talents Assane Diao and Nico Paz scored decisive goals at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Fiorentina manager Raffaele Palladino handed full debuts to January signings Nicolo Zaniolo and Nicolo Fagioli, who started alongside fellow new recruit Michael Folorunsho in attack. Moise Kean was suspended after receiving his fifth yellow card against Inter. Como made one change from their previous loss to Juventus, with midfielder Maxence Caqueret replacing Patrick Cutrone.
The match began with Zaniolo attempting an early shot that went just over. Como goalkeeper Jean Butez was called into action early to deny Robin Gosens.
Como took the lead through Diao’s counterattack goal in the 41st minute. The young forward carried the ball from midfield and slotted past David De Gea one-on-one.
The second half saw several heated incidents and bookings. Como doubled their advantage in the 66th minute when Nico Paz capitalized on a Fiorentina mistake, scoring from the edge of the box.
This result leaves Fiorentina in sixth place, just one point above Milan and Bologna who have a game in hand. Como moves up to 13th, five points away from the top half of the table.
The match statistics showed an even possession split, but Como had more shots on target (4-3) and total shots (8-5). The visitors also committed more fouls (24-14) in a physical encounter.
