Serie A: Lazio Edges Atalanta 1-0 as Isaksen Goal Deepens Home Side’s Struggles
Lazio dealt another blow to Atalanta’s faltering season, securing a 1-0 away victory thanks to Gustav Isaksen’s second-half strike. The result marks Atalanta’s third consecutive defeat without scoring, plunging the Bergamo club further into crisis.
Both teams entered the match needing to regain form after recent setbacks. Atalanta were looking to bounce back from losses to Inter and Fiorentina, while Lazio had won just two of their last nine matches across all competitions.
The first half provided few clear chances, with neither side able to break the deadlock. Atalanta’s best opportunity came when Sead Kolasinac’s header went wide from a corner kick.
Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas, preferred to Ivan Provedel, made a crucial save early in the second half to deny Mateo Retegui from close range. The visitors then took the lead in the 54th minute when Isaksen slid in to convert a knockdown from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Atalanta pushed for an equalizer but struggled to create clear-cut chances against a resolute Lazio defense. The home side’s frustration was evident as they failed to find the net for the third straight match.
The victory keeps Lazio in contention for a top-four finish, while Atalanta face mounting pressure after another disappointing result. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini will need to find solutions quickly to arrest his team’s alarming slide down the Serie A table.
