Sky Sports comments on Chelsea’s pursuit of prolific striker

A Sky Sports panel has weighed in on Chelsea’s reported interest in signing a forward capable of scoring “40 goals a season”, with the club making contact regarding Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel as a potential replacement for Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku has struggled for consistent playing time in the Premier League under manager Enzo Maresca this season, despite scoring 13 goals across all competitions. With Bayern Munich expressing strong interest in signing Nkunku, Chelsea are exploring options to bolster their attack.

Reports suggest Chelsea want around £65 million to sell Nkunku before the transfer deadline. Interestingly, the possibility of a swap deal involving Tel has been mentioned by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 19-year-old Tel is highly rated but has found opportunities limited at Bayern this season. Sky Sports confirmed Chelsea have made contact about Tel’s availability, with one pundit describing him as “one of the best young strikers in Europe.”

The panel highlighted Tel’s versatility to play centrally or on the left wing, as well as his physical attributes like pace and mobility. They noted former Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann’s high praise, claiming Tel could potentially score 40 goals a season.

While Tel’s talent is clear, the panel acknowledged it may be difficult for Chelsea to sign him from Bayern at this stage. However, they indicated Chelsea have been monitoring the French forward for some time as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
