Spanish Footballer Lucas Pérez Diagnosed with Tuberculosis
PSV Eindhoven has officially confirmed that Spanish forward Lucas Pérez has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis. This highly contagious lung disease will keep the player off the field for several months.
According to Dutch newspaper ‘Telegraaf’, Pérez’s condition is described as “active tuberculosis,” and it’s doubtful he will return to play this season. The player must undergo isolation for three to four weeks and receive antibiotic treatment, which will significantly impact his physical condition.
PSV’s official statement reads: “One of PSV’s first-team players has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis. The player in question is doing well under the circumstances. Although the risk of further infections is low, we are closely monitoring the situation following standard GGD (municipal health department) protocols.”
Pérez, who joined PSV from Deportivo de La Coruña in the recent winter transfer window, had only played a few minutes across three matches before this diagnosis.
Concerns of Potential Outbreak at PSV
The Dutch club is reportedly worried about a possible tuberculosis outbreak within the team. Given the disease’s long incubation period and highly contagious nature, PSV plans to conduct regular tests to prevent further spread. It remains to be seen whether Pérez’s case is isolated or if more players will be affected.
This unexpected health issue poses a significant challenge for both the player and the club as they navigate the remainder of the season.
