Spanish National Team Overhauls Coaching Staff
Just six months after winning the European Championship, the Spanish national football team has undergone a significant restructuring of its coaching staff. The departure of Pablo Amo, who previously served as assistant coach, has prompted a comprehensive renewal of the team’s technical personnel.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced the new appointments, with Juanjo González Argüelles stepping up from his role as technical assistant to become the new assistant coach of the men’s senior team. This move aims to maintain continuity in the successful work carried out in recent years across both the senior squad and youth categories.
González brings over a decade of experience as an assistant and goalkeeping coach in Spain’s youth teams, with several European and World Cup titles at U17 and U19 levels to his name. He previously worked as an analyst under former coach Luis Enrique.
Another notable addition to the coaching staff is Alberto de la Fuente, son of current head coach Luis de la Fuente. Alberto joins as a technical assistant and analyst, bringing experience from his time with Huesca and Spain’s youth teams. His achievements include involvement in the Paris 2024 Olympics and the U21 Euro 2023 victory.
These changes come as Pablo Amo departs to take over as head coach of Al Arabi in Qatar, accompanied by several members of the previous Spanish coaching setup. The restructuring reflects the federation’s commitment to building on recent successes while introducing fresh perspectives to the national team’s technical approach.
The revamped coaching staff demonstrates Spain’s focus on maintaining their competitive edge in international football, blending experienced personnel with new talent to guide the team through upcoming challenges.
