Spurs consider £40m move for Premier League striker to address depth concerns

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a move for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap as they look to bolster their attacking options. The 20-year-old forward has impressed for the newly-promoted side this season, scoring 8 goals in 22 appearances.

According to reports, Spurs are considering a £40 million bid for Delap in the January transfer window. The North London club view him as an ideal backup option for summer signing Dominic Solanke and a potential long-term successor.

Delap’s excellent form for Ipswich has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, with Chelsea also said to be interested. However, Ipswich are reluctant to sell their star asset midway through the season as they battle against relegation.

For Tottenham, signing Delap would address their lack of depth up front behind Solanke. With the England striker currently sidelined through injury, manager Ange Postecoglou has been forced to rely on the inconsistent Richarlison.

At just 20 years old, Delap has shown immense potential and could develop into a top Premier League striker under Postecoglou’s guidance. His physical presence and clinical finishing would provide Spurs with a different option in attack.

While the £40 million price tag represents a significant outlay, Tottenham view it as a worthwhile long-term investment in a player who could lead their line for years to come. With Solanke turning 28 this year, the club are keen to plan for the future.

Ultimately, Delap’s signing would give Spurs much-needed competition and depth up front as they look to climb back up the Premier League table in the second half of the season. His arrival could prove to be a shrewd piece of business by the North London club.
