Spurs regret selling talented striker outperforming Solanke and Johnson
Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been disappointing so far, with poor form in the Premier League and an early exit from the League Cup. The team has also struggled with injuries to key players.
Two of Spurs’ top scorers, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson, are currently sidelined. Their absence has left the team lacking firepower up front. However, a player Tottenham sold in the summer is now outscoring both of them at his new club.
Irish striker Troy Parrott left Spurs for Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in a £6.7 million deal last July. The 22-year-old has been in excellent form, scoring 15 goals and providing 3 assists in 32 appearances so far this season.
Parrott’s tally of 15 goals is higher than both Solanke (11 goals) and Johnson (12 goals) have managed for Tottenham. While the Dutch league may be an easier level, Parrott’s form suggests Spurs may have been too hasty in letting the talented young forward leave.
With their current injury issues up front, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou would likely welcome having a prolific striker like Parrott available right now. The decision to sell him is looking increasingly questionable as he continues to impress in the Netherlands.
