Stanisic Acknowledges Mistake in Incident with Inter Ball Boy
Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic has admitted that pushing an Inter ball boy during the final moments of their Champions League quarter-final second leg was “a bit stupid”. The incident occurred as tensions ran high at San Siro on Wednesday evening.
As Bayern desperately sought an equalizer against Inter, who ultimately secured a 4-3 aggregate victory, Stanisic rushed to retrieve the ball after it went out of play. However, neither Inter coach Simone Inzaghi nor the ball boy made any effort to return the ball quickly.
In a moment of frustration, the 25-year-old defender pushed the Inter ball boy, causing him to fall from his seat on the touchline. This action immediately sparked outrage among the nearby Nerazzurri reserves.
Reflecting on the incident, Stanisic told German newspaper Abenzeitung: “It’s common for teams to try to run down the clock when they’re ahead. My reaction in pushing the ball boy was somewhat foolish.”
Inter will now face Barcelona in the semifinals, with the first leg scheduled for April 30. The Italian side remains in contention for a treble, leading the Serie A table and having advanced to the Coppa Italia semifinals.
