Strasbourg Loanee Djordje Petrovic to Return to Chelsea

Djordje Petrovic, the 25-year-old goalkeeper, has experienced a highly successful loan period at RC Strasbourg Alsace from Chelsea. Previously, Petrovic held the No.1 position at Chelsea for a period last season. However, his on-ball abilities were noticeably lacking. The move to Strasbourg provided Petrovic with an opportunity to improve this aspect of his game.

Petrovic has performed strongly for Strasbourg, a team vying for a spot in European competitions next season. Despite his contributions to their campaign, it is anticipated that he will return to his parent club, Chelsea, at the end of the current season. It is unlikely he would remain at Strasbourg to participate in any European campaign, even if they qualify. BBC Sport has reported that Petrovic is scheduled to rejoin Chelsea.

Upon his return to Stamford Bridge, Petrovic is expected to compete for the No.1 goalkeeper spot alongside Robert Sanchez and Fili Jorgensen. Despite concerns about the goalkeeping position at Chelsea this season, the Premier League club is not expected to sign another goalkeeper during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Alternatively, BBC Sport suggests Petrovic could potentially move to another major club. However, Chelsea’s estimated £25 million transfer fee may discourage potential clubs from making an offer.
