Sunderland Football Club has officially announced the appointment of Florent Ghisolfi as their new Director of Football. Ghisolfi, who previously served as the sporting director for AS Roma during the 2024-25 season, is set to begin his new role on July 3rd.
During his tenure at Roma, Ghisolfi was responsible for several notable signings, including Enzo Le Fee, who later joined Sunderland on loan. Le Fee`s move to Sunderland has now become permanent following the club`s promotion to the Premier League, setting the stage for a reunion between the player and his former director.
Other significant acquisitions made by Ghisolfi at Roma included Artem Dovbyk from Girona, Matias Soule from Juventus, and Manu Kone from Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new challenge, Ghisolfi stated, “The club`s recent achievement in gaining promotion to the Premier League is remarkable. I`m committed to leveraging my experience to support the team`s continued growth and ensure we`re prepared for the challenges ahead in the top flight.”
He added, “I`m looking forward to collaborating with Kyril, Kristjaan, and Régis as we embark on this exciting new chapter in Sunderland`s history, alongside our passionate fans.”
Ghisolfi`s appointment marks a significant step for Sunderland as they prepare for their return to the Premier League. His experience and proven track record in identifying talent could prove invaluable as the club aims to establish itself in England`s top division.
