Tebas Fires Back at Uribes Over Dani Olmo Registration Dispute
LaLiga president Javier Tebas has issued a public response to José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, head of the Superior Council of Sports (CSD), regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding Dani Olmo’s player registration. This comes after Uribes claimed in a recent interview that Tebas was responsible for the registration issues.
In a detailed statement, Tebas challenged Uribes’ assertions, posing a key question: “Who actually issued the new licenses for players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor?” He argued that the CSD’s resolution fails to establish a clear issuance date for the licenses.
Tebas outlined several points to counter the CSD’s stance:
- The original licenses were explicitly valid until December 31, 2024, as agreed by the club and players.
- FC Barcelona sought urgent court measures before year-end, indicating they understood the licenses would expire December 31.
- The court rejected this request, but it shows the club believed the players would be unregistered from January 1.
The LaLiga president criticized the CSD’s argument that there was no “express cancellation” of the licenses, calling it a unilateral reinterpretation of clear contractual terms. He emphasized that the core legal issue should focus on when and how a new license was processed, rather than debates about procedural forums.
Tebas concluded by stating that administrative law requires consistency, justification, and legal certainty. LaLiga has appealed the CSD’s latest decision on the ‘Dani Olmo case’, setting the stage for further developments in this ongoing dispute between LaLiga and the CSD.
