Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada, 23, is expected to start his first game for Lyon this Sunday against Brest at the Groupama Stadium.
Almada recently joined Lyon on loan from Botafogo during the transfer window. Lyon managed to sign him despite facing a potential transfer ban due to shared ownership issues.
Since arriving in Europe, Almada has made five substitute appearances for Lyon as he adapts to the team. His most recent appearance was in the 3-2 loss to PSG last weekend.
Almada ‘Deserves’ Start After Impressive Substitute Roles
In a press conference, coach Paulo Fonseca stated that Almada has impressed him since joining Lyon. Fonseca said, “He will start. He is a very intelligent and technically gifted player who excels between the lines. He reads space well, makes good decisions, and delivers key passes. He has performed well as a substitute and deserves to start and play more.”
Lyon hopes to continue their strong attacking form since Paulo Fonseca took over from Pierre Sage. Under Fonseca, Lyon has scored 12 goals in four games (two wins and two losses).
