Thiago Motta’s Juventus Journey: A Statistical Overview
Juventus has parted ways with coach Thiago Motta after a brief 284-day tenure. The decision came as the Bianconeri found themselves eliminated from both the Coppa Italia and Champions League, while also failing to secure a Champions League spot in Serie A.
Despite signing a three-year contract in June 2024, Motta’s reign at the Allianz Stadium lasted less than a year. Juventus, who invested approximately €200 million in the summer transfer window, were initially considered title contenders alongside Inter, Napoli, and Milan. However, both Juventus and Milan have fallen short of expectations this season.
Motta’s departure leaves Juventus in fifth place in Serie A, trailing fourth-placed Bologna by a single point. The team has amassed just 52 points after 29 rounds, their lowest tally in 14 seasons. Their recent form has been particularly concerning, with seven goals conceded and none scored in their last two Serie A matches.
The final blow came in the form of a 4-0 home defeat to Atalanta, Juventus’ heaviest home loss since 1967. This was followed by another 3-0 defeat away at Fiorentina, despite director Cristiano Giuntoli’s public show of support for Motta after the match.
In his farewell statement, Motta expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the club and wished the fans and Juventus success in the future. The team’s new coach, Igor Tudor, is set to make his debut when Juventus hosts Genoa at the Allianz Stadium this coming Saturday.
